Local Food Bank Donations Needed!

Local DC-area food banks are bracing for impact as Federal funding cuts slash their normal supplies. Although our area is considered to be one of the wealthiest jurisdictions in the country, it still faces a poverty rate of 6 percent. This means, based on U.S. Census figures, that more than 70,000 people in Northern Virginia are living in poverty and 30 percent are children.

Our partner food bank, Food for Others, serves 2,638 people in our community each and every week. In addition, they distribute 3,900 power packs to children who otherwise may not have breakfast or lunch. Now more than ever, they need the help of neighbors like YOU to fill their shelves and keep food on the tables of those in need in our community.

Through June 8th, we are collecting the following items on behalf of Food for Others. Donations can be placed in front of the church altar and will be taken to the food pantry after our collection date. Please consider donating:

  •  Canned protein (except tuna)

  • Canned fruit

  • Rice, 16oz packages

  • Dried or canned beans (black, kidney, pinto, etc.)

  • Pasta

  • Cereal
