Youth Faith Formation
Holy Trinity is a great place for youth of all ages to learn and grow in God’s love.
Sundays | 8:45 - 9:45 am | September - May
Our Sunday School Programs give children in grades K-12 an opportunity to learn about God and the Christian faith. Pre-school through 6th grade classes participate in a musical opening and then separate into age-grouped classes led by dynamic volunteers from our congregation. Middle and high school youth enjoy classes designed to provide meaningful learning and discussion opportunities appropriate to their age groups. Through engaging weekly lessons and annual traditions like the Christmas Pageant and butter lamb sculpting at Easter, memories made in our Christian education classes will last a lifetime.
Confirmation instruction is offered to 7th and 8th graders through their Sunday School curriculum and - for eighth graders - about 15 Sunday afternoon Confirmation classes between September and May. (Classes are held at HT or via Zoom online video conferencing.) Confirmation is celebrated on Pentecost Sunday.
Holy Communion is open to children who understand the meaning of the sacrament, with no minimum age requirement. Parents who believe their child is ready to participate in Holy Communion are given a short booklet to work through with their child and then the parents and child attend a one-time class with the Senior Pastor to ensure the child is ready to participate.
Youth Service and Fellowship Activities
Youth ages 10-18 enjoy service and fellowship activities throughout the school year, planned by our youth ministry team. Recent service projects have included collecting, sorting, and packing clothing for the annual Gifts for the Homeless program (5th-6th graders) and assembling “flood buckets” of supplies needed to begin clean-up after flooding is experienced for Lutheran Disaster Response (High School class). Fellowship activities have included Nationals games, movie nights, game nights, and more. The youth also work together on fundraising projects, with proceeds used to send our High School youth to the ELCA Youth Gathering that is held every three years. That event brings together 30,000 high school youth and their adult leaders for a week of interactive learning, worship, Bible study, service and fellowship that challenges and inspires the youth to live their faith in their daily lives.

Stories and Songs: Holy Trinity hosts a weekly play group for young children and their caregivers in the Mosaic District Community Room on Thursdays from 10:30-11:30 am. Pastor Mike, Vicar Corey, and volunteer Karen Davis (a retired Kindergarten teacher) lead the group in fun songs, silly finger puppets, and movement to music. There are interactive readings, a time for visiting, and a closing prayer. The children enjoy being together and so do the adults! All are welcome to join in the fun at 2985 District Ave, Suite 100, Merrifield, VA. This program is part of our “HT in Mosaic” initiative.
